AVRL Meeting Oct 2015

3pm Friday 2nd October 2015
UWA Centre for Learning Technology (CLT)

This was AVRL’s first meeting, attended by about 30 UWA and industry guests.

Dominic Manley gave a presentation about VR and AR, explaining what they are, how they can be used and why they will be some of the most important technologies emerging into mainstream use in the next few years.

He finished up by explaining the motivations for starting AVRL, focussing on the strategic value to UWA and industry partners of actively driving adoption of the AR & VR ecosystem.

This was followed by a lively and engaging open discussion session with both industry and UWA participants offering valuable insights.

Following this, there were lots of VR and AR demos on display for everyone to try – including several prototypes Dominic had built (a health and fitness simulator for the Oculus Rift, and a mobile app for the Kings Park Honours Avenues project).
